YAMATOKOBO is an original SETTA brand of SAKAGAWA INC (founded in 1957) which inherits traditional Japanese sandals manufacturing methods and techniques. The ‘SETTA’ is a traditional Japanese footwear developed by Sen no Rikyu, the founder of tea ceremony. The ‘SETTA’ , traditional Japanese footwear, has been arranged in a modern and functional way while making the most of its traditional qualities. It is a design that goes well with both Japanese-style architecture and Western-style spaces with its beauty. Casual but elegant, traditional and new comfort. SETTA is handcrafted by Japanese craftsmen, and is a combination of traditional techniques and innovation.

  Created by Matthew Waldman, NOOKA is a MINDSTYLE™ brand. The concept of NOOKA is to create interactions between people and objects to foster a real universal language. As far back as 1998, with a licensing arrangement with SEIKO of Japan, NOOKA was a pioneer in bringing the revolution in interface design to physical objects. Key themes explored and expressed are: interaction, visual linguistics, interface, action design, design, and universal language.

Uniqueness and Diversity

We conceived the idea with the concept of “moving forward”, hoping to spread the traditional experience of ‘SETTA’ and ‘TABI’ sandals to the world. Looking back on human history, evolution has always been accompanied by sharp ideas and materials, and we incorporated the idea of moving forward into the design to create simple bold universal expressions of forward movement combined with the handcraft of Japanese tradition.

Tradition and Innovation

The ‘SETTA’ made by YAMATOKOBO are made individually by Japanese craftsmen. Different parts, such as the sole, strap (Hanao), and top board (Tenban), are combined with NOOKA mindstyle aesthetic innovative expressions.

Sustainable Society

In order to create a sustainable society, we have taken into consideration the impact on the environment and selected the most eco-friendly materials possible. We have tried to make our products without compromise.
